Everyone knows there is a problem with how we are educating our kids. Our answer of more homework, more extracurricular activities, more testing, more measuring, more producing isn’t working. We need to put away our measuring sticks and put our trust in our children. The more we continue to measure them, the more they are going to feel like they never measure up.

Talk to any employer or manager of young humans today and they will tell you that most of their young hires are unable to take action without direction, they cannot or will not improvise, innovate or take the risk of getting something wrong. Through constant testing, standardizing and comparing, we have educated out the confidence and willingness our kids need to thrive in the world as it exists today.

Why have we let grades become more important than joy? What happens when homework becomes a bigger priority than family time?

"After school programs squeeze out flow, exploration and much needed boredom from which creativity arises. Responsibility and performance are prioritized over simple connection. This ever-growing rate of complexity, speed and structure grates on tender little ones and is largely to blame for the rise in anxiety and depression." - Vince Gowman

Disruptors like AI will continue to accelerate, the goal posts will move faster and further than we can predict during our kids' lives. We have no idea what the job marketing will look like in 10, 15, 20 years so it is more important than ever that we protect and cultivate our kids creativity so that they can thrive in this maelstrom of change.

Buckeye is an antidote, a solution and a disruptor that will bring changes in education far beyond its own student body. Buckeye’s revolutionary approach puts kids back in the driver's seat where they can gain the skills they need studying problems they are passionate about. We prioritize their social emotional wellbeing because we know it is it is impossible for anyone to learn or problem solve when our fight and flight response is engaged.

Putting your students' emotional needs first is important because without feeling safe and understood, no instructional strategy will be effective.” ~ Jasper Fox, Sr.

Supporting our program is a way to support change in education as a whole by helping us demonstrate the efficacy of interdisciplinary, project based, self-directed learning that meets kids where they are while caring for their body, mind and soul.

In the future, Buckeye will offer training to educators from around the world during summer institutes. Your donations will help save children and our education system.
