How to join our Buckeye Family

Applications are a critically important part of the process to discover whether there is a good fit between Buckeye and your student, and Buckeye and your entire family. Given Buckeye's unique approach to a child’s education, it is important that both the school and family applying have ample opportunity to explore ideas, questions, thoughts, and feelings, and our application serves as a springboard for those later conversations.

All applications, application fee, and supporting materials for the 2021/2022 school year are due by Monday, February 1st for priority consideration. Every family is welcome to apply. Applications received after spots have been filled will be placed in our wait pool. Should a spot open during the year, we will reopen the enrollment process and consider wait pool applicants for placement at Buckeye.

Buckeye’s Board of Trustees has set tuition for the 2022-23 academic year for our Upper and Lower school below.

At this level, we hope our budget can provide Tuition Assistance to 35%+ of our families needing help. Covid has further widened the wealth gap in our country, BFS’s Tuition Assistance Program is a long term investment aimed at diminishing this gap and developing the confident, critical problem solvers that we all need to deal with the challenges facing our communities.

Our Tuition Assistance Program is central to our mission of providing access to a Friends School education to as wide an array of families as we can. Through this program, BFS adjusts tuition for families based on their specific financial circumstances. While not all families that request an adjustment can receive it, we are able to make Friends more affordable to a majority of the families who submit their information to the program.

We encourage families who are experiencing financial hardship to fill out the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), which helps us assess each families’ individual needs.

After submitting your application you will be invited to Buckeye for an interview with our Admissions Team. This is a conversation between your family and our team aimed at deepening your understanding of our approach and clarifying our understanding of your needs and aspirations so we can figure out if Buckeye is a great fit for your family.

After the parent conversation, student applicants may be invited to the school for a day visit to meet with staff and current students in order to get to know each other and explore the possibility of becoming members of our Buckeye community. 

Admissions decisions are made thoughtfully, based primarily on the family’s and school’s shared vision regarding educational approaches and practices. We admit students when they, their parents and Buckeye believe that the student will thrive in our community. 

Buckeye Friends School welcomes children of all races, colors, national origins, ethnicities, religions, economic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations and families of any composition. Buckeye Friends School does not have formal education accreditation by design, so families can register as homeschool within their local school district.

Agreements and deposits go out mid-March and are due at the beginning of April. Students to whom we are not able to offer admission will be placed in our wait pool upon request, in case there are fall, winter, or spring admission openings.
